Counting down
Busy busy busy. Today marks four working weeks to go, 19 working days, till I take the big leap of having a bit over a year off work to be a stay at home dad.
So this is the time when I start looking at all my projects and wondering how to tidy them all up and be able to pass them on, like the little creatures they are, and what kind of life they'll have without my influence upon them. I know that sounds a little stoopid but there are these components of my work that I've enjoyed developing in amongst all the dross and everyday office silliness.
So September 14 is my last day, and the first couple of months at least will be taken up with working out the routines, not to mention several thousand words of assessment for a couple of subjects and a far-too-brief 48 hour trip up north for a sister's wedding.
I'm looking at getting into shed projects, like a puppet theatre I sketched a plan out for about a year ago, so there'll probably be project-blogging as a consequence.
But the main thing will be the boy, our little monster-moo (as we've come to call him), and I'm under no illusions as to what my primary role will be. I could talk about how it'll be good to have a career break, how I'll get an apron and do the whole homemaker thing, how my days could, if I'm foolish, quickly be filled with the mind-numbing background drone of daytime television and talk radio, but that's all by the by. But it's all about the boy, and an opportunity for hands on dadstuff that, 21st century sensibilities aside, not enough other men really get the chance to experience. I can't wait.
...I've been a bit absent of late due to just everything going on, work, study, being K's sidekick while we've been working out a sleeping schedule for R and then putting it aside while he goes through more teething. The other day I saw an old friend which I'll start drafting up a post about to put up sometime in the next few weeks and tomorrow I've got a mind to put up a quick little something as well. I think I'm coming up to my "vox year" soon, so at some point I'll probably look back over things as well.
